BUCKLE UP AND HANG ON, THE 2019 BURTON U·S·OPEN IS GOING TO BE HUGE
The 37th annual Burton U·S·Open Snowboarding Championships are lighting up Vail, Colorado, February 25 – March 2, 2019!
You can watch it live on Red Bull Tv
Legendary competition in halfpipe and slopestyle is only the beginning. The world’s greatest snowboard event also features a full week of entertainment for all ages, on and off the mountain, highlighted by four nights of free live music as part of the Burton Concert Series. Wednesday night through Saturday night, you’re invited to free performances by an eclectic mix of mainstage touring bands, breakthrough artists, and world-renowned DJs on the Solaris Concert Stage. Not to mention ticketed late-night shows with special guests at the Shakedown Bar in Vail Village.
Did someone say four nights of free live music?
Now that you know what you’re doing each night, let’s get back to the competition. As the longest-running competitive event in snowboarding, the Burton U·S·Open is your chance to watch the world’s best battle it out in halfpipe and slopestyle. The action kicks off Tuesday, February 26 with the Junior Jam Halfpipe presented by Clif Bar. 16 boys and eight girls ages 14-and-under will give us a glimpse of the future as they compete in the 22-foot pipe for a piece of the $2,000 prize purse and the opportunity to ride alongside the pros in Thursday’s halfpipe semi-finals.
Wednesday, February 27, is when the pros take the stage for the slopestyle semi-finals, followed by halfpipe semi-finals on Thursday. The list of competing riders is stacked and all will be charging full throttle in hopes of advancing to Friday and Saturday’s finals for a shot at a piece of the $373,000 USD prize purse. Check out the full event schedule here, then make plans to join us in Vail or tune in live so you can watch riders like Chloe Kim, Anna Gasser, Scotty James, Mark McMorris, and Red Gerard do what they do best.
It doesn’t get more up close and personal than this.
The girls’ Junior Jam halfpipe podium. Don’t worry, it’s sparkling cider.
New for this year, we’re also giving you the chance to compete alongside your friends, family, and even the pros in the inaugural Burton Slide Show Banked Slalom. Open to all ages, this event is free to enter and offers you the chance to race against the clock down a course with banked turns and gates. Registration and the race itself will both take place at the Black Forest Race Arena, 10am-3pm daily from Thursday, February 28, through Saturday, March 2.
2019 marks the seventh year in a row that the Burton U·S·Open will be held at Vail Mountain and every year we find more ways to up the entertainment. We’ll have free snowboard and binding demos for riders to try, including the revolutionary Burton Step On® system. We’ll also have opportunities for you to make some turns alongside your favorite riders on the Burton Team. Kids ages 3-6 can get in on the fun, too, by checking out the Burton Riglet Park, with free Burton learning equipment and lessons to boot.
Like FREE stuff? Make sure you cruise through the Sponsor Village at Golden Peak for product sampling, demos, and giveaways! Throughout Vail Village you’ll find daily Après All Day food and drinks specials at participating bars and restaurants, as well as live broadcasts of the competition, plus more giveaways and contests. Get yourself some commemorative U·S·Open gear at the Burton Pop-Up Shop at Golden Peak and on Burton.com, plus look for opportunities to meet the pros at events like the annual Chill fundraiser party at 8:30 pm Wednesday night in the Colorado Snowsports Museum. Don’t forget to keep your energy up for the Closing Party on Saturday night at the Dobson Arena where we send it in legendary fashion with all the friends we’ve made throughout the week.
