SYDNEY’S FAVOURITE SUMMER RUN AND SWIM WEEKEND

SYDNEY’S FAVOURITE SUMMER RUN AND SWIM WEEKEND

February 3 & 4 will see the return of Sydney’s most enjoyable sporting weekend The Sydney Morning Herald Sun Run and Cole Classic.

With fun runs, open water swimming and the introduction of the brand new Aquathlon, Sydney’s breathtaking Northern Beaches is expected to host 10,000 participants over this fabulous weekend.

It all kicks off on February 3, with two spectacular events: 7km and 10km fun runs along Manly’s stunning coastline. Both of the Sydney Morning Herald Sun Run events start at Dee Why Surf Life Saving Club and finish beside the iconic Manly Lifesaving Club on Manly Beach, with runners of all levels challenging themselves along the picturesque Northern Beaches courses. Children under five run for free.

This year will also see the introduction of a brand new hybrid event, The Sydney Morning Herald Aquathlon, designed to bring even more fun to the weekend’s festivities. The Sydney Morning Herald Aquathlon will give participants the chance to challenge themselves with the 8.5km course (run and swim) on February 3. Triathlete and Run Theory Ambassador James Thorp is hoping to take out the title and earn his place in history in the inaugural Aquathlon event.

The fun doesn’t stop there! Now in it’s 35th year Manly’s refreshing ocean waters will host Sydney’s most historic and famous swim event, The Sydney Morning Herald Cole Classic at beautiful Shelly Beach. Entrants can participate in the 1km, 2km and 5km events, finishing the swim in front of Manly Lifesaving Club. The 1km race is the perfect introduction for anyone looking to dip their toe into open water swimming.

Head of Sport at Fairfax Events, Sarah Young, commented, “With so many event options on offer, we love to see participants and families of all experience levels kicking off their year in either the run or swim or this year in both! It’s a wonderful weekend festival and we’re thrilled to be delivering these fresh and fun events on one of the most iconic coastlines in the world.”
