WA food and wine trails target growing tourism market

The growing food and beverage tourism market is the target of a new initiative to promote Western Australia’s fresh produce and stunning landscapes to travellers.

  • 14 food and wine trails promote locations across the State
  • Focus on WA produce, local businesses and regional areas
  • Supported by Tourism WA in conjunction with local businesses and Trails WA

The WA Food and Wine Trail initiative has been supported by Tourism Western Australia to showcase locations across the State, with an initial 14 trails to be promoted through regional and local tourism organisations.

Tourism WA worked with the businesses featured to create brochures for each trail, highlighting the unique regional produce of that region.

The brochures include local maps, accommodation and tour information and are available from visitor centres. People in Perth can also pick up the brochures at the Taste of WA display at Yagan Square today (December 2) from 11am to 1pm.

Trails currently developed include:

  • Swan Valley Sweet Temptations Trail;
  • Denmark Food and Wine Trail;
  • Blackwood Valley Farm Trail;
  • Blackwood Valley Food and Beverage Trail;
  • Albany Picnic Provisions Trail;
  • Mount Barker Food and Wine Trail;
  • Southern Forests Wine Trail;
  • Fremantle Gusto Italiano Trail;

  • Peel Craft Beer and Wine Trail;
  • Tom Cullity Gourmet Food and Wine Trail;

Each trail will also be listed on the Trails WA website and smart phone app. Further regional and Perth trails are currently being developed in locations including Geraldton, Broome, Carnarvon, Denmark, Margaret River; and a Buy West Eat Best Restaurant Trail in Perth.

The trails are part of Tourism Western Australia’s Food and Wine strategy to strengthen the reputation of WA as a destination with gourmet produce and premium beverages of international recognition.

It also complements the launch of the Road Trips campaign, which promotes driving holidays in WA as the perfect way to experience the best of Australia.

Tourism Minister Paul Papalia said, “Food and wine tourism is one of the fastest growing sectors of the tourism industry worldwide, with almost 400,000 food and beverage travellers visiting our State each year. The food and wine trails initiative taps into this lucrative market, promoting our State’s fresh, safe, high-quality produce which can be experienced in some of the most beautiful landscapes in the world.

“Tourism WA is developing a food and beverage action plan to build on the success of the recent changes in the hospitality landscape including streamlined liquor licensing reform and the expansion of the Western Australia Gourmet Escape in 2019.”
