Tour De Timor MTB doco to stream live around the world this weekend

This weekend a locally produced grassroots film about one of the toughest bike races in the world, the Tour De Timor, will be screened in Melbourne’s Docklands and streamed live around the world on the internet.
Spinning Dreams is a documentary made by a young initiative called Gone Cyclin to raise funds for Timor Aid.
Gone Cyclin is made up of a bunch of young people from Singapore, mostly from the ‘corporate’ world, who wanted to get away from their desk jobs, get out into the world, challenge themselves and give something back to the earth and their neighbours in developing countries.
The film was one way they could make a difference and inspire other young people to do the same. The goal was to raise over SGD $50 000.
“Every now and then, you come across something that truly inspires you, something that you know you need to be apart of – something special,” Jacqui Hocking, creative director LateNite films told Outer Edge.
“That’s what I felt like when I met the GoneCyclin Foundation from Singapore, and so I agreed to make a documentary about their first project in Timor~Leste. I joined two untrained cyclists in one of the toughest bike races in the world, the Tour De Timor.
“The journey was life-changing, challenging, devastating and exciting. The spirit in East Timor was so inspirational – even through the areas most affected by poverty, malnutrition and grief from a horrific history. Every village burst into life as the teams cycled past, waiving and cheering, while also celebrating their independence, and mostly their pride at hosting such an incredible event.”
The independent documentary features local music, was filmed on the back of a motorbike with three cameras and one crew member, and was cut together in a month shortly before it’s premiere in Singapore last November.
It is a completely independent production - so 100% of all proceeds go directly into the Charity - Timor Aid.
The screening will take place Saturday 26 February in Shed 4, North Wharf Road, Docklands. Doors open from 6.30pm and as well as the screening there will also be live performances from TASH PARKER, POCO LA PAX, BETH KING AND THE HEMINGWAY COLLECTIVE and THE PARKING LOT EXPERIMENT. Tickets are $20 (early bird $15) or just $10 if you ride your bike. Purchase tickets here.
