Funding boost for Queensland’s regional events

The Palaszczuk Government has announced more than $100,000 in funding to support regional events throughout Queensland.

Tourism and Major Events Minister Kate Jones said funding had been awarded to seven events as part of Tourism and Events Queensland’s Destination Events Program.

“This round will provide $109,000 to seven events across the State, delivering on Queensland’s reputation as just the place to experience Australia’s best live events,” Ms Jones said.

“We know that events in regional areas play a key role in growing Queensland’s tourism economy, increasing overnight visitation, driving visitors to the state and offering them an extraordinary and uniquely Queensland experience.

“Successful events in this round will form part of Queensland’s world-class events calendar estimated to be worth $600 million to Queensland’s economy.

“Events supported this round include the Agnes Blues, Roots & Rock Festival, BOWLZILLA Gold Coast, 2018 Mackay NQ Games, E&E Waste Hell of the West Triathlon, TreX Cross Triathlon Series Championships, Noosa Summer Swim Festival, and Feast of the Senses.

“Events such as these play an important role in bringing people and communities together to celebrate Queensland’s unforgettable experiences, and capture the character of our diverse regions.”

Ms Jones said since 2015 the Palaszczuk Government had invested close to $4.6 million in regional events across the State.

“These events benefit from increased marketing and strategic support to increase their profile, promote their experiences to visitors and attract visitors to their regions,” she said.

“I congratulate the successful events this round, and we will continue to invest in Queensland’s events scene to inspire the world to experience the best address on earth.”

The program – which includes three rounds per year – supports events that attract visitors and contribute important dollars to local communities.
